Nigel Feetham, Minister for Justice

Mr Feetham was elected into Parliament on 12 October 2023. Before this, he was a lawyer at the Hassans law firm. He will most likely return to Hassans when he will cease to be a Minister.

During the election campaign, I asked Mr Feetham's opinion about his law firm sending intimidation letters to citizens who dared to publicly criticise Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and his Government. Obviously, criticising politicians is using one's Constitutional freedom of speech, even when the criticism might be unwarranted. Politicians know that they will be criticised once elected, it's a choice they make when they decide to stand for election. The Chief Minister's failure to deal with criticism, and his intimidation letters, show a disrespect for Constitutional rights. Each of those intimidation letters cost the tax payer £3,000. When I asked Mr Feetham to condemn the use of intimidation letters trying to stifle freedom of speech, he vehemently refused to do so. This completely undermines Mr Feetham's democratic credentials.

Mr Feetham then supported the hurried law proposal giving the Government powers to undermine, and even stop, the McGrai‌l inquiry which investigated corruption by the Chief Minister and Attorney General. This inquiry has not concluded yet. However, it shows Mr Feetham's willingness to support controversial decisions against democratic principles.

Mr Feetham has been quick, as Minister for Justice, to establish contact with my former employer Entain. On 24 November 2023, Entain agreed to pay a £615 million fine to settle a bribery inquiry, one of the largest financial penalties ever imposed in the UK. About 3 weeks later, on 18 December 2023, Minister Feetham visited Entain's headquarters in the UK, where he had "a productive meeting with the senior leadership team". 4 months later, on 22 April 2024, Mr Feetham AGAIN visited Entain, this time at their head office in Gibraltar.

There can be little doubt that Mr Feetham, as a Hassans lawyer, and as Minister for Justice, must be fully aware of my court case against Entain. He must be aware too of certain strange evolutions which happened during this court case. It makes one wonder why he had all this urgency to go and meet up with Entain.
